Dunraven Gardens, Southerndown

Thanks to a £99,000 project, Dunraven Walled Garden in Southerndown has been beautifully restored for future generations to enjoy.

The Vale council, in partnership with Dunraven Estate, carried out the substantial repair work to the walled gardens between July – November 2013. The restored garden was formally opened by Lady Dunraven and Lady Ana of the Dunraven Estate on 22 November 2013.

The garden's walls are listed and the gardens themselves are designated Grade II in the CADW Register of Landscapes Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in Wales.

The summerhouse has a new roof construction over bituminous felt which provides roosting space for pipistrelle bats.

Swallow cups have also been set high up on the back wall to provide further biodiversity interest.
