220 acres of woods and meadowland in a sheltered valley leading to a pebble beach and spectacular cliffs.
With 220 acres of woods and meadowland lying in a sheltered valley leading to a pebble beach and spectacular cliffs, Porthkerry makes for a great family day out with lots of open green space. It is also very popular with dog walkers.
It has a number of nature trails, picnic sites, a café, and an adventure play area. Picnic tables and benches are situated a short distance from the main car park.
The park is well known for its imposing viaduct which has kept watch over the park since the 1890's.
The main carpark is laid with tarmac, with three disabled parking spots, with ramps to the café building, the Forest Lodge and to the outside toilet block off the main carpark. There are two disabled toilets which are open 24 hours via a radar key.
There is a wheelchair ramp into the rangers Office, with one dedicated parking spot for blue badge holders.
Access to the pebble beach is via a tarmac path and also via a boardwalk and bridge, which runs through the rewilded area – both are wheelchair accessible .
The main access road through the park is also suitable for wheelchairs, although cars do use it.
The main meadow has various paths cut through the grass which would be suitable for sturdy wheelchairs when the ground is dry.
There is also tarmac path under the Viaduct - which is a shared cycle way.
The woodland paths are less suitable for wheelchair users, although there is a gravel path through Cwm Barry which is good and a slightly more rough path through Millwood.
