About
Meeting of Minds: Sculpture Cymru and Friends @ Art Central
Sculpture Cymru was formed in the year 2000 and currently comprises of 15 members, living in and working in Wales, who come together to make work, exhibit, and exchange ideas.
Over the years they have exhibited in an impressive array of venues and contexts, including castles, sculpture parks and the National Botanic Garden of Wales. The group have exhibitors at Art Central previously and we are delighted to have them back again, this year.
This exhibition, Meeting of Minds, has created the opportunity for members to invite a guest artist to exhibit alongside them. You will notice that many of the pairings spark off each other, whether through a shared use of the same medium or material, or through a sympathy of ideas.
Unlike painting and other 2D forms of artmaking, sculpture occupies real space, creating an immediate relationship with the viewer. As you will see from this wonderful exhibition, sculpture comes in many forms – from the weighty mass of wood, stone and metal to the fragile, almost ephemeral fragility of works like the charcoal pieces – while many of the drawings have a sculptural feel with layers of paper, the use of light and texture, or show the thinking behind the conception of objects as they evolve into 3D forms.
Visitors will have a rare opportunity to see sculpture in its many forms and to see the work of artists who have established themselves nationally and internationally.
