Established as one of South Wales’ largest bouldering and indoor climbing centres, Boulders are expanding their climbing footprint into a brand-new centre in the Vale of Glamorgan, with the aim of making climbing an activity for everyone.
Like their current sites on Cardiff Newport Road and in Cheltenham, Boulders’ new centre will offer everyone the opportunity to reap the mental and physical benefits of climbing; supporting beginners through to experts -whether it’s their first climb or their fastest.
Boulders was the first indoor climbing gym to hit Cardiff and is heading towards its second decade of operation, which has been made possible by its tight-knit and ever-growing climbing community. Co-founder of Boulders, Ollie Noakes, set out to create a climbing centre that would bring people together and learn a new skill or two along the way.
Speaking about his feelings on the opening of the new site, he said,
“Back in 2008 we opened the first dedicated climbing facility in Cardiff. It's been an incredible journey over the past nearly 15 years! We opened our second facility in Cheltenham in 2020 and we're already looking for additional sites. It's feels great to be opening our third facility.”
The new site will see a dedicated bouldering space with walls reaching up to 4 metres high, a kids’ zone with party facilities, a specialist training area along with a large viewing area and café. Plus, members of Boulders will benefit from access to all three sites, guest passes, shoe hire and discounts on the café.
The bouldering-only approach will mean there are no roped climbing areas and will provide the perfect opportunity for beginners to get into the sport.
Talking about what the new centre means for Boulders, Managing Director and Co-founder Ollie Noakes said,
“Cardiff is where Boulders was born. We truly believe that climbing is a sport that everyone can enjoy; by opening our second site here we're making climbing more accessible so that even more people can enjoy the sport and its many benefits."
Boulders first opened their doors in 2008 and ever since have been committed to providing a welcoming, inclusive and safe environment for anyone to climb.
